Thérèse Jacobs Stewart, M.A., L.P., has been a practicing psychotherapist, meditation teacher, and international consultant for more than 35 years.Thérèse started as a psychotherapist in the late 1970s, training in family systems with the reputed Virginia Satir and Carl Whitaker. Since then, her work has evolved to integrate mindfulness -based therapies and the latest research in brain science.
Thérèse was among the pioneers in recognizing the similarity between the 12 -Step recovery programs and the ancient Buddhist path of mindfulness meditation. Her books integrate those techniques with the latest research in psychology and neuroscience, offeri ng practical, easy-to-use-applications. In 2004, she founded Mind Roads Meditation Center, a neighborhood practice center integrating contemplative practices from both East and West and home of the Saint Paul, Minnesota, chapter of 12-Steps and Mindfulness meetings. As a recognized public speaker, Thérèse now spends much of her time speaking and leading workshops and retreats around the country. She is the author of A Kinder Voice: Releasing Your Inner Critics with Mindfulness Slogans (Hazelden 2016), Mindfulness and the Twelve Steps: Living Recovery inthe Present Moment (Hazelden 2010), and Paths Are Made By Walking: Practical Steps for Attaining Serenity (Grand Central Publishing, 2003).
