Return to Balance

A 7-Day Yoga and Recovery Journey

May 15 - 22, 2021

Nosara, Costa Rica

Space is limited.

After a year of separation, isolation, elevated levels of anxiety, fear and stress, we have curated an experience to come back together in a safe environment to practice yoga, meditation, and to be in the beautiful energy of recovery.

This experience is a homecoming an opportunity for healing and reconnection with each other and ourselves. Come join us for a week of dedicated practice, universal 12 Step meetings, transformational processes, music, food and lots of laughter.

We look forward to seeing you where the jungle meets the sea at the Blue Spirit Retreat Center.

“The Costa Rica retreat to Blue Spirit with Kia and Tommy was one of the best experiences of any kind I've ever been on.”
- Retreat Participant

WHAT TO EXPECT

Renewal. Return to balance. Practice. Music. Nature. Community. This retreat will focus on yoga, meditation and other activities that create transformation and lead us into harmony.

It is more important than ever to come together to heal, release, and connect. This is an immersive transformational experience of a life time.

EXPERIENCE

Our greatest joy is to share in the bounty of life in community. This retreat is the centerpiece of that experience. We go deep into practice together immersed in nature and support each other in the joy of living life more fully.
"The trip was nourishing at all levels from the physical layer through to the blissful core. Costa Rica, the monkeys, the food, the ocean, the energy and community all lovingly interwoven by Kia and Tommy, and the amazing music of Aykanna.”

Wellbeing is at the heart of Blue Spirit’s core values and caring for our guests and staff as well. In response to COVID-19, we have developed new work procedures and mandatory trainings to ensure safety for everyone.

Our singular goal is to provide guests and employees with the confidence and assurance that their health and safety is our first priority.

With this in mind, social distancing measures are embedded for guest protection, including appropriate spacing in dining, buffet line and café. Here is a list of COVID-19 safety measures being taken.

  • Upon arrival, all retreat participants are required to present a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of their flight.
  • We encourage single occupancy, except for couples or known friends or family member.
  • We offer online and contactless check-in.
  • Enhanced food safety and hygiene protocols for dining – including glass barrier at buffet line to allow staff server with mask and glove to plate food choices.
  • Social distancing guidance in public areas along with dining service.
  • Prominent placement of hand sanitizer stations throughout public and employee areas.
  • All service staff will wear protective masks and other equipment.
  • Increased frequency of cleaning with hospital-grade disinfectants on all high-touch surfaces and areas such as guestrooms, dining area, common spaces, classrooms, restrooms, etc.
  • Daily temperature check-ups of all staff, including therapists, prior to working.
  • Full staff trainings for hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Shuttle services back and forth to airport carrying less people for social distancing
    • Private taxis are available
    • All vehicles sanitized before and after use.
  • We recommend to bring your own yoga mat & yoga blanket.
  • No commuters or temporary outside visitors will be allowed on premises to assure a safe and hermetic environment.
  • Our Longevity Center offers specialized immune booster programs for your stay, if desired.
  • We regularly implement new policies based upon guidance and information shared by various health organizations such as WHO, CDC, local authorities, etc
  • We will have everything at Blue Spirit that one should need – including the beach and natural environment to assure a restful, replenishing and healthy stay with us.

This means people who identify as being in recovery from addictive substances or behaviors with at least 30 days of continuous sobriety at the time of application. All participants commit to avoiding the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other addictive substances during the program.

No. There is no nicotine in any form allowed on this trip. On this journey, there’s no need for nicotine.

Yes, you will want to have at least begun a practice of yoga. However, the yoga we teach, while challenging to each individual, will be accessible to practitioners at every level.

Absolutely! If you have a partner or friend who is also in recovery or who has supported you in your recovery, please ask them to apply and include your name in their application. Sharing this transformational week with someone close to you is such a gift.

Prices start at $2,000 US, with various lodging options available. Your accommodations at Blue Spirit, all of your meals (with ample vegan and GF options), all lectures, yoga, and retreat activities are included. You should not need to spend more than a few dollars in addition to this cost while staying at Blue Spirit.

Your transportation to and from Blue Spirit (air and ground), spa or excursion services, surf lessons, additional snacks, gift shop purchases and incidentals. We do like to venture into town as a group one night and dine out – you could easily find a lovely meal with tax and tip for less than $20 US.

You will need a valid passport to travel to Costa Rica, but you will not need a Visa if you are coming from the US, Canada, or the European Union. The drinking water is good at Blue Spirit and the nearby town of Playa Guiones, as it is in most of Costa Rica, and no additional vaccines are recommended. If you’re planning to spend time off site, you may want to get some Costa Rican Colones, although US dollars are widely accepted both at Blue Spirit and in the surrounding community.

Blue Spirit offers lodging options with and without A/C, and the common areas are primarily open air, no A/C. Fans are provided in the rooms without A/C, but only you know yourself. If you’re quite accustomed to a cool sleeping environment, you may prefer a lodging option that includes A/C. We have never felt overburdened by heat in any of the lodging options.

Beach clothing, yoga clothing (shorts), slip on shoes and your camera! You can leave your shampoo and soap at home, because luxurious and eco-friendly options are provided (and required) to help protect the turtle sanctuary at Blue Spirit. Yoga mats and props are also provided, as are bath towels. Beach towels are available for purchase in the gift shop. There are no laundry facilities, so we recommend packing accordingly. You can always walk or arrange for a car to go into Playa Guiones (about an hour walk on the beach, or about a 12-minute car ride) if you need incidentals that are not available in the beautiful gift shop.

Playa Guiones has many wonderful places to stay at all price points. Blue Spirit may have a room available for you before and after, although the property is only open to those attending retreats. There are budget-friendly hostels, luxury hotels, and yoga retreat properties all within a 30 minute drive of Blue Spirit.

– Liberia (LIR) is a 2.5 hour ride away from the retreat center. You can arrange round-trip shuttle transportation with Blue Spirit, which is very comfortable.
– San Jose (SJO), about a one-hour charter flight away.
